Natsukashii Mirai (nostalgic future) is the third Japanese single released by alan. It peaked at #19 on the Oricon charts and has since sold more than 10,000 copies.
The title track was used as the theme song for the special NHK TV program, Save the Future, which was aired for three days around World Environment Day on all NHK channels and on the web to raise awareness of environmental issues prior to the 34th G8 Summit hosted by Japan. In particular, it was the theme song for a TV movie included in the program, Boku no Shima / Kanojo no Sango (僕の島/彼女のサンゴ; My Island / Her Corals).
This single is also the first in her five-single traditional elements set, representing earth in the Japanese Godai and the Tibetan Bön.
This single was produced by Sakamoto Ryuichi and its music featured alan playing the er-hu.
